New Study Warns on Increased Risk of Fracture from Nexium

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 21, 2012

The media spotlight is often a double-edged sword. No one knows this better than people who suffer from Nexium severe adverse events and have filed Nexium Lawsuit. And yet, gossip and rumor-mongering aside, the real story here is being overlooked according to Sean Burke of AttorneyOne.

In April 2012, MHRA published an article revealing that there is recent epidemiological evidence of an increased risk of fracture with long-term use of PPIs (Proton Pump Inhibitors), including Nexium. Nexium, manufactured by AstraZeneca, is a medication that people take to prevent on-going heartburn. A recent study, published on January 31st 2012, in the British Medical Journey, showed that postmenopausal women are at a 35% increased risk of hip fractures if they regularly use PPIs, including Nexium, and that risk increases to more than 50% among women with a history of smoking.

According to court documents, on April 19th, 2011, an Ohio woman, Ginny Begin, filed a lawsuit Texas Southern District Court (case no. 4:2011cv01489) against AstraZeneca, alleging that she suffered bone deterioration and fractures from Nexium. Begin started taking Nexium daily from 2003 until early 2011. She suffered a broken leg in July 2005 and again in 2007 due to bone deterioration. Plaintiff claims that the side effects of Nexium caused her bones to degenerate, resulting in multiple breaks.

The American College of Gastroenterology reports that more than 60 million Americans experience heartburn at least once a month.

AttorneyOne.com, a recognized authority on law, can provide helpful advice and simple solutions including how to get in contact with legal counsel so that, in case of Nexium severe adverse events, someone can easily and inexpensively deal with it. As Mr. Burke, director of Media Relations for AttorneyOne.com, added, What all this information really illustrates is that threat from Nexium remains. For that reason, our focus should squarely fall on getting the word out and assisting people in finding the right legal assistance.

In May 2010, the FDA issued a warning regarding the increased risk of fractures of the hip, wrist, and spine from Nexium and other PPIs. In March 2011, the FDA stated that the risk of low levels of magnesium in the blood (hypomagnesemia) if taken for a long time was linked to Nexium (and other PPIs). Hypomagnesemia can result in serious side effects, such as muscle spasm, irregular heartbeat, and seizures.

AttorneyOne.com has further information on Nexium lawsuits including how to get in contact with legal counsel.

Parker Waichman LLP Warns Against Long-Term Use of Fosamax, Other Bisphosphonates In Light of Limited Benefits, Risk of Atypical Thigh Fractures, Other Side Effects

New York, New York (PRWEB) May 14, 2012

Parker Waichman, a national law firm committed to protecting the legal rights of people injured by defective drugs, is urging women who use Fosamax and other bisphosphonates to treat osteoporosis to seek the advice of their doctor if they have been taking the drugs for five years or more. A recent analysis performed by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) has found that taking bisphosphonates beyond five years offers few, if any, benefits to patients. [nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMp1202619]

In addition to Fosamax, other bisphosphonates include Actonel (risedronate), Boniva (ibandronate), Atelvia (risedronate delayed release), Didronel (etidronate), and Skelid (tiludronate), and Reclast (zoledronic acid injection).

According to the NEJM report, the FDA’s analysis involved a review of previously released studies that included more than 2,400 post-menopausal women. One of the studies involved Fosamax and continued for 10 years. The FDAs analysis of that study revealed that 10.6 percent of those who received the drug suffered a fracture during the first three years of use, compared with 21 percent given a placebo. However, no benefit was seen in women who continued taking Fosamax beyond five years.

A second study reviewed by the FDA involved women treated with Reclast who were followed for six years. In that trial, 9.8 percent of women treated with Reclast suffered a fracture in the first three years of the study, compared with 20 percent of women who were taking a placebo. However, by 3 to 6 years of use the gap narrowed, with 8.6 percent of Reclast users experiencing fractures, compared with 12 percent in the placebo group.

The FDA analysis did not offer much in the way of guidance regarding long-term bisphosphonate use, saying treatment decisions should be based on an individual assessment of risks, benefits and preferences discussed between a patient and her doctor.

According to Parker Waichman LLP, the authors of the study point out that the long-term safety and effectiveness of bisphosphonates has come under scrutiny because of the occurrence of rare but serious side effects such as atypical femur (thigh bone) fractures, osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), and esophageal cancer. The FDA ordered that warnings be added to the labels of Fosamax and other bisphosphonates regarding their risk of ONJ in July 2005. [merck.com/newsroom/news-release-archive/corporate/fosamax_statement.html]

In October 2010, the agency asked the manufacturers of bisphosphonates used to treat osteoporosis, including Fosamax and Boniva, to add information to the “Warnings and Precautions” section of the drugs labels describing the risk of atypical thigh fractures after a study linked long-term use of such drugs to this side effect. [fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm229171.htm]

The FDA is currently investigating a possible association between oral bisphosphonates and esophageal cancer. [http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/ucm263320.htm

Considering the lack of evidence indicating that long-term use of bisphosphonates provides any benefits to patients, Parker Waichman LLP urges women who have been taking these drugs for five years or more to seek the advice of their physician.

“Considering all of the unknowns surrounding the long-term use of Fosamax and other bisphosphonates, women need to discuss the risk and benefits of these drugs with their doctors, says Matthew McCauley who is the leading attorney in the bisphosphonate litigation group at Parker Waichman LLP. “From the FDA analysis, it certainly doesn’t appear that there are any good reasons why most women taking bisphosphonates for osteoporosis or osteopenia should continue doing so after five years.”

Parker Waichman LLP continues to offer free legal consultations to victims of bisphosphonate side effects. If you or a loved experienced an atypical femur fracture, ONJ, or any other side effect that could be associated with the use of Fosamax or another bisphosphonate, please contact their office by visiting the firms bisphosphonate side effects page at http://www.yourlawyer.com. Beware of Valentine’s Day Malware Distribution Campaigns, Warns Aware Bear Computer Repair

Rochester, New York (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

Social networking sites are the cyber pirates preferred technique for deceiving users, primarily obtaining confidential information from users by convincing them to take a series of actions. This includes credit card information, personal data and bank related information used for identity theft and other cyber crimes mentions Andre Alves from Rochester New York, Andre is the owner and founder of Aware Bear Computer Repair.

Cyber pirates are also exploiting other channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Google+, Myspace, Orkut and with their access to millions of users that these social networks websites. These websites have become just as popular among the online criminal community for spreading malware and spyware. Malware and Spyware are forms of viruses that install into a computer and record the users activity; later these programs send a log back to the original online thief that has enough information to start doing identity theft and other online crimes.

http://awarebear.com/blog/awarebear/beware-of-valentines-day-malware-distribution-campaigns-warns-aware-bear-computer-repair/

A new Facebook virus attack that takes advantage of users walls to spread has recently been discovered. An apparently harmless message invites users to install a Valentines Day theme on Facebook but when the user clicks the wall post, they are redirected to a page where they are prompted to install the theme. This installs a malware file which, once run, displays ads from other websites. It also downloads an extension that monitors Web activities and redirects sessions to survey pages that request sensitive information like phone numbers mentions Panda Antivirus Software.

Aware Bear Computer Repair blog previously reported on a suspicious Black Friday virus going around many computers and doing identity theft. This virus was being spread by social media sites and also by email messages. Following are several examples of Valentines Day-themed malware campaigns detected by Aware Bear Computer Repair in recent years using the Panda Antivirus Software:

Waledac.C: This worm, spread by email, tried to pass itself off as a greeting card and included a malicious link to access it. If the user clicked the link and accepted the subsequent file download, they were allowed the Waledac.C worm into their computer. Once it infected the computer, the worm used the affected users email to send out spam.

I Love.exe you: This was a RAT (Remote Access Trojan) that gave attackers access to the victims computer and all their personal information. The Trojan allowed the virus creator to access target computers remotely, steal passwords and manage files.

Nuwar.OL: This worm spread in email messages with subjects like I Love You So Much, Inside My Heart or You in My Dreams. The text of the email included a link to a website that downloaded the malicious code. The page was very simple and looked like a romantic greeting card with a large pink heart. Once it infected a computer, the worm sent out a large amount of emails, creating a heavy load on networks and slowing down computers. Following is a screenshot of a website that downloaded the Nuwar.OL worm: http://prensa.pandasecurity.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/NuwarOL.jpg

Valentin.E: This worm spread by email with subjects like Searching for True Love or True Love and an attached file called friends4u. If the targeted user opened the file, a copy of the worm was downloaded. The worm then sent out emails with copies of itself from the infected computer to spread and infect more users. Following is a screenshot of the desktop wallpaper displayed by Valentin.E: http://prensa.pandasecurity.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Valentin.E.jpg

Storm Worm: This worm spread via email by employing a number of lures, one of them exploiting Valentines Day. If the targeted user clicked the link in the email, a Web page was displayed while the worm was downloaded in the background. Following is a screenshot of the web page displayed by Storm Worm: http://prensa.pandasecurity.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/STORMWORM.jpg according to PandaLabs virus scan logs.

PandaLabs offers computer users a series of tips to avoid falling victim to computer threats:

Do not open emails or messages received on social networks from unknown senders.
Do not click any links included in email messages, even though they may come from reliable sources. It is better to type the URL directly in the browser. This rule applies to messages received through any mail client, as well as those in Facebook, Twitter, or other social networks or messaging applications, etc. If you do click on any such links, take a close look at the page you arrive at and if you dont recognize it, close your browser.
Do not run attached files that come from unknown sources. Stay on alert for files that claim to be Valentine Days greeting cards, romantic videos, etc.
Even if the page seems legitimate, but asks you to download something, you should be suspicious and not accept the download. If you download and install any type of executable file and you begin to see unusual messages on your computer, you have likely been infected with malware.
If you are making any purchases online, type the address of the store in the browser, rather than going through any links that have been sent to you. Only buy online from sites that have a solid reputation and offer secure transactions, encrypting all information that is entered in the page.
Do not use shared or public computers or an unsecured WiFi connection for making transactions or operations that require you to enter passwords or other personal details.
Have an effective security solution installed, capable of detecting both known and new malware strains.

FDA warns on Severe Diarrhea from Prilosec: AttorneyOne.com Provides Advice and Solutions for the ongoing Threat of Adverse Events from Prilosec

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 05, 2012

The media spotlight is often a double-edged sword. No one knows this better than Rebecca Smith-Lee. And yet, gossip and rumor-mongering aside, the real story here is being overlooked according to Sean Burke of AttorneyOne.

On February 8th, 2012 the U.S. FDA issued a warning on drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) including Prilosec – that might increase the risk of a type of chronic diarrhea and lead to severe intestinal problems and, in rare cases, death. Prilosec is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) prescribed to treat acid reflux, stomach ulcers and other conditions.

The FDA’s alert is based on reports it has received as well as 23 studies that overall found that people who took a PPI were up to 2.75 times more likely than those who didn’t to develop Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD)which can cause abdominal pain, fever and, in rare cases, death.

Moreover, in May 2010, the FDA announced that the safety labeling for proton pump inhibitors would be updated to include information on an increased risk of certain fractures associated with their use.

On December 1st, 2011 an Arizona woman, Rebecca Smith-Lee filed a product liability Prilosec Lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (case no. 3:2011cv05775) against the makers of several popular heartburn drugs, including Prilosec, alleging that use of the medications caused her to suffer multiple bone fractures. Smith-Lee indicates that she took Prilosec and other heartburn drugs from 2007 through 2010. In December 2009, she experienced multiple fractures in her right foot, which required surgery. A month later, she suffered multiple fractures in her left foot.

AttorneyOne.com, a recognized authority on law, can provide helpful advice and simple solutions including how to get in contact with legal counsel so that, in case of Prilosec severe adverse effects, someone can easily and inexpensively deal with it. As Mr. Burke, director of Media Relations for AttorneyOne.com, added, What all this information really illustrates is that threat of severe adverse effects from Prilosec remains. For that reason, our focus should squarely fall on getting the word out and assisting people in finding the right legal assistance.

On December 26th, 2006, a report, based on a University of Pennsylvania study, was released showing that people taking proton pump inhibitors including Prilosec had an increased risk of hip fractures by 260 percent.

AttorneyOne.com has further information on Prilosec Lawsuit including how to get in contact with legal counsel.

For National Poison Prevention Week, American Association of Poison Control Centers Warns That Children Act Fast, and So Do Poisons

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) March 19, 2012

The American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) is cautioning parents, grandparents and caregivers that poisonings children act fast, and so do poisons, according to Debbie Carr, AAPCC executive director.

About half of all poison exposures involve children younger than 6, most often occurring when parents are busy preparing meals. Poisonings also occur when the normal routine changes during holidays or while moving, visiting or traveling, Carr said. The 50th anniversary of National Poison Prevention Week is the perfect time to stress the importance of poison-proofing your home to keep your children and grandchildren safe.

Since 1962, the third week in March has been designated National Poison Prevention Week and has focused national attention on the dangers of poisonings and how to prevent them. Americas 57 poison centers are committed to safeguarding the health and well-being of every American through poison prevention and free, confidential, expert medical services. Poison centers respond to calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week in order to help those who have been exposed to toxic substances.

In 2010, U.S. poison centers answered more than 3.9 million calls, including nearly 2.4 million calls about human exposures to poisons. In children, about 40 percent of poisonings involve medicines; the other 60 percent of poisonings in children involve products such as plants, cleaning supplies, cosmetics, pesticides, paints and solvents. Poisoning is the fourth leading cause of death among children, with peak incidences occurring between ages 1 and 3.

The experts at Americas 57 poison centers urge parents, grandparents and caregivers to take the following steps to keep children safe from poisonings:

Inspect your home and garage to make sure medicines, cleaning products, pesticides and fertilizers are stored up high, away and out of sight of children.
Tell children what medicine is and why you must be the one to give it to them. Never call medicine candy to get them to take it.
Dont leave medicines or vitamins on counters, window sills, bedside tables or the refrigerator top.
Take your medicine where children cant see you; they may try to imitate you.
Teach children to always ask an adult before eating, drinking or touching anything.
Keep cleaning products and household chemicals in their original containers with their original labels intact.
Keep batteries out of a childs reach. Call your local poison center right away if a child swallows a battery.
Keep magnetic toys and other magnetic items away from small children. Call your local poison center right away if you think a child has swallowed a magnet.
Know the name of all household plants in your home; remove any poisonous plants from your house and yard.
Remember that child-resistant is not child-proof. Layer the protection: re-seal and lock up, out of sight and reach.

For more information, the media may contact Loreeta Canton, AAPCC communications manager, at 703.894.1863 or canton@aapcc.org or Brett Schuster, communications assistant, at 703.894.1859 or schuster@aapcc.org.

The AAPCC supports the nations 57 poison centers in their efforts to treat and prevent drug, consumer product, animal, environmental and food poisoning. Members staff the Poison Help hotline at 1-800-222-1222 that provides free, confidential, expert medical advice 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year from toxicology specialists, including nurses, pharmacists, physicians and poison information providers. In addition, the AAPCC maintains the only poison information and surveillance database in the United States, providing real-time monitoring of unusual poisoning patterns, chemical exposures and other emerging public health hazards. The AAPCC partners with federal agencies such as EPA, HRSA and the CDC, as well as private industry.

Computer Repair Firm Warns of PC Hacker Scam

(PRWeb UK) May 26, 2010

The customer concerned had been called the night before by a “Microsoft Engineer” with a heavy Indian accent. The “engineer” told her that she had a problem with her computer that they had detected and they were calling up to help her. She was a little sceptical but followed their instructions.

They directed her to the System Log in Event Viewer and asked her if there were any errors. Indeed there were errors in the system log (as there almost always are). She was then directed to the Teamviewer website and asked to “Join a Session”. At this point she became suspicious when they asked her for the username and password that Teamviewer had just presented her.

Had she given this username and password the “engineer” on the other end would have had full remote control of her PC and could have done almost anything such as installing a virus, removing her anti-virus or stealing all of the information on the PC. Potentially they could have installed a small piece of software called a key logger and monitored everything she did on her PC such as online banking.

Luckily the customer refused to give the username and password stating that her “computer guy” was coming in the morning and she would ask him to look at it. The scammer then became threatening and abusive trying to intimidate her into allowing him access, resorting to profanity and eventually hanging up.

Steve Lane of PC PAL commented, ‘Fortunately for our customer, she had already booked me for a computer repair call the next day, as she felt it better to have someone have a look at her computer in person.’

He added, ‘This is the first time I had heard of this scam, but it is not the first time that this attack has been used on home computer users. It’s clearly been going on for some time but that makes it no less effective. It is the quickest way to circumvent all security controls and antivirus programs.’

Staffordshire county council have even posted a warning on their website about this very scam.

So what can we learn from this? Firstly it does not matter if we have the best anti-virus or Internet Security software suite if we do not use some common sense. Anyone calling up out of the blue and asking to connect to your computer should be refused. Never give up sensitive personal information such as date of birth, mother’s maiden name, national insurance number, passport number and so forth to someone over the telephone (or Internet) unless you are certain that you must give out that information, but never give it to someone who has cold-called you. Passwords should always be kept a secret.

Microsoft will only call you if you have logged a call with them. Microsoft do not have a habit of cold calling you. Visit the Microsoft Online Safety site to learn how to protect your family, protect you computer and protect yourself. Always call a professional for help if you are in any doubt about something you may have downloaded.

New Book Warns of Grave Dangers to Israels Survival

New York (PRWEB) February 09, 2012

Fox News has just reported that Israel is preparing for a showdown with Iranmeaning a preemptive strike on Irans nuclear weapons program. In his new book “Live by the Sword: Israel’s Struggle for Existence in the Holy Land” (published by WestBow Press), Lt. Colonel James Rothrock examines the dire consequences that could result from an attack on Iran with a high probability of a devastating retaliatory attack against Israel. Rothrock foresees such a strike unleashing a conflagration that could involve the whole region and even major world powers.

“Live by the Sword” portrays Israels struggle for existence in the Holy Land since becoming a Jewish state in 1948. Colonel Rothrock draws on his military experience, travels in the Middle East and academic background to present an authentic picture of the Jewish peoples quest for a homeland in Palestine, their fight for survival against multiple Arab invasions, the hundreds of indiscriminate terrorist attacks and the ominous threats to their very existence today.

Colonel Rothrock was inspired to write this book by the incredible courage and iron will of the Israeli people in their fight for survival against overwhelming odds. He was also moved by the incredulous way the people of Israel have endured the daily threat to their lives from invasions and terrorist attacks. The inspiration for the title comes from the former Israeli Minister of Defense, Moshe Dayan, who once remarked that his generation was condemned to live by the sword for the foreseeable future.

About the Author

As a career U.S. Air Force officer, Colonel Rothrock served abroad for 11 years and traveled extensively in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and Pacific. He is a former university professor of world geography. Firebrand Training Warns SMEs are Making it easy for Hackers by not Securing their Wireless Networks

York, UK (PRWEB) July 19, 2008

SMEs are endangering critical corporate information because they are failing to adequately secure their wireless networks.

Failure to change preset simple ‘admin’ security settings, or choosing easy-to-crack passwords and allowing the network to be visible to potential attackers are the three most common mistakes made by small and medium businesses with their wireless setup.

Firebrand Training is urging SMEs to take a more proactive approach to their wireless security – and they say it is by learning the tricks used by hackers that they will stay one step ahead of potential attacks.

The Accelerated Learning pioneer has launched a White Paper “Wireless networks: are we just leaving the stable door wide open?”,outlining the key strategies employed by hackers against corporate wireless networks. It is by understanding the tactics used in a hacking attack, SMEs can pre-test their wireless networks for the potential weaknesses which could be compromised in a real life breach.

The White Paper also recommends using tools implemented by hackers to glean information about a wireless network before an attack. Common tricks used by hackers include ‘sniffers’ such as Kismet, penetration tools like the Aircrack suite and tracers such as Netstumbler are set out as potentially helpful elements to test a network’s resilience.

The full White Paper can be found on the Firebrand website http://www.firebrandtraining.co.uk along with all details of all their IT network and security training courses.

“Many SMEs may not have a dedicated team in charge of network security, but this is no excuse for not having the necessary measures in place,” said Rob Chapman, CEO, Firebrand Training. “Wireless networks are highly convenient and extremely quick to implement but if simple security measures are ignored, wireless weaknesses could open the door to a devastating hack attack.”

“Know your enemy,” Chapman continued, “Tracking the footprints of an attack before it happens, and taking effective steps to protect the network against specific threats will be the only way small businesses will ensure their data remains secure and in the right hands.”

NOTES TO EDITORS

About Firebrand Training, http://www.firebrandtraining.co.uk

Firebrand Training is challenging the way in which professional training is delivered.

Firebrand Training, formerly known as The Training Camp, has pioneered Accelerated Learning courses for busy IT professionals. The organisation’s innovative approach to course delivery has led to its status as the Institute of IT Training’s “IT Training Company of the Year” for the past three consecutive years.

Students are totally immersed in the subject matter, receiving an average of 12 hours intense tuition per day at a residential training site. Subject experts implement a range of teaching methodologies designed to fit with how we best understand and retain information during different periods in the day. Accelerated Learning is an attractive proposition for contractors, whose time commands very high premiums, and employers who need to minimise staff absence. Firebrand Training has an above average pass rate of 85% – confounding critics’ claims that Accelerated Learning fails to produce results.

Firebrand Training was founded by Robert Chapman and Stefano Capaldo in Summer 2001 as The Training Camp. Stefano was a former student in the US and rated the company’s approach so highly that he decided to launch a programme of courses in the UK. The organisation has since been recognised by Microsoft as a Gold Partner for Learning Solutions (MCPLS) and over 12,000 students have been trained in the UK to date. The success of the company enabled the management team to relaunch as Firebrand Training, which is focused on delivering training courses specifically designed for a European market.

Firebrand Training offers a range of courses covering all major vendors such as Microsoft courses, Cisco training, Oracle, Sun, and Novell, as well as specialist certifications in the areas of security, business intelligence, project and business process management.
