The Ultimate Peace: America’s Challenge in the Middle East
($ 20.00) ISBN: 978-1-4349-0240-5, paperback
Concerned with the current situation in the Middle East, Dr. Charbel E-H Moussa gives insight into the conflicts within the region and its relations with the U.S. The post-9/11 era and the U.S. war in Iraq have developed a strange group of allies, giving the U.S. an “unprecedented opportunity” to stabilize the Middle East by taking advantage of subtle alliances. Dr Moussa calls on the U.S. to capitalize on this situation, offering solutions for improving the Middle East from within and establishing what he calls a New Mediterranean.
By providing background for the tensions that exist in the Middle East today, Dr. Moussa seeks to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of understanding cultural differences as a step toward reconciling them. If peaceful development is utilized rather than forceful strategies, he contends that a U.S. presence in Iraq can serve a purpose in achieving “The Ultimate Peace.”

Depression: How Psychotherapy and Other Treatments Help People Recover
($ 10.00) ISBN: 978-0-8059-7666-3, paperback
“Since the existence of humanity, abnormal behaviors have been present in individuals,” Jesse M. Cooper states in the introduction to his study of the different types of psychological treatments available to depressed patients. In a formal, systematic analysis, Cooper presents a series of studies, outcomes, and conclusions, combining the psychologists’ comments and his own commentary to take the results to a different level and apply them to other situations.
In combination with these studies, the author supplies statistics and history related to the study of depression and other mental disorders and the causes and symptoms involved. For those unfamiliar with them, terms are clearly defined in a glossary in the back of the book. Cooper’s Depression: How Psychology and Other Treatments Help People Recover, as an informative introduction to the treatment of depression, provides a wealth of factual data and remarks that may help us understand this complicated subject.

This Sugar Is Coated with Quinine!
($ 14.00) ISBN: 978-1-4349-0118-7, paperback
During his own fruitful marriage, Charles Ebereonwu has witnessed the tumultuous stories of many people’s marital upheavals and the alarming rate at which families break up, resulting in the disasters of stressed single parents and distraught children caught between “opposing forces.”
In This Sugar Is Coated with Quinine! Mr. Ebereonwu explores the tribulations of Ken and Helen, a couple whose marriage is in dire trouble, only to come to the conclusion that with sacrifice, tolerance, and perseverance, every marital problem eventually expires, leaving the couples the best of friends. Marriage, Mr. Ebereonwu asserts, like any other worthwhile human endeavor, comes with challenges that need to be confronted with a positive attitude. He compares giving up and quitting to a student who drops out of school because some courses are difficult and their lecturers hard to please. The key to marital success, as Mr. Ebereonwu demonstrates, through Ken and Helen’s story (a story stunningly similar to that of their near relatives), lies in the partners’ mutual commitment to their bondmost especially when children are involved.
