BioPlus Launches TAP App for Physicians to Monitor Patient Specialty Pharmacy Treatments

Altamonte Springs, FL (PRWEB) April 16, 2012

BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy (BioPlus), one of the nations leading specialty pharmacies, has launched TAP App, a new proprietary, secure web-based portal that connects physicians with extensive information about their patients who are being treated through our specialty pharmacy. This intuitive application, which can be easily accessed by doctors via their tablet or laptop at any time, allows physicians to monitor their patients from initial intake through benefit verification and shipping. In addition, outcome data, such as medication adherence issues, medication possession ratios (MPRs), adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and other interactions with patients are all quickly and easily available to physicians.

From 28 percent to 95 percent of adverse drug events can be prevented by lessening medication errors through the use of computerized monitoring systems, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. As one example, AHRQ notes that computerized medication order entry could potentially prevent up to 84 percent of dose, frequency, and route errors in medication use.

Our new TAP App for physicians is right in line with AHRQs suggestion of leveraging technology to eliminate medication errors, says Dr. Stephen Vogt, president and CEO of BioPlus. Aside from the obvious benefit to patients health, diminishing medical errors lowers costs, especially in light of a study earlier this year in the journal Health Affairs finding that the estimated total cost of measurable medical errors in the United States is $ 17.1 billion annually, with the most frequent medical injuries being adverse events associated with medications. In fact, as another article in that issue noted: for every dollar spent on health care in the U.S., as much as 45 cents is related to a medical mistake.

TAP App from BioPlus serves as a time-saver for physicians, giving hours back for patient management, while putting the pharmacy chart inside the physicians office to improve communications and decrease the administrative burden of reimbursement, prescription writing, adherence monitoring, and drug list reviews.

TAP App allows physicians to:

E-prescribe, as well as view medications dispensed and other vital data secured to their tablet or laptop
Access patients progress from initial intake through benefit verification and shipping
Login to view patient therapy assessment reports and prior authorization status
Review outcome data, such as medication adherence issues, MPRs, ADRs, and other interactions with patients.

BioPlus has a strong history as an industry leader for improving several specialty pharmacy metrics. In addition to this latest effort to lessen medication errors through TAP App, BioPlus has been improving compliance for its patients. In tracking compliance statistics for its treatment programs, BioPlus is proud to report that the latest data, which includes more than 22,000 BioPlus patients sampled from treatment programs for hepatitis C, oncology, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, Crohns disease, and other conditions, shows that BioPlus achieves a 91 percent compliance rate at discharge. The compliance rate for retail and mail-order pharmacies is only 50 percent.

DermaVeratrol Offers Safe Alternatives to Extreme Beauty Treatments

Middletown, CT (PRWEB) April 17, 2012

The prospect of young women seeking to prevent the effects of age is hardly a new one. American culture has long been obsessed with youthfulness and physical beauty, and anti-wrinkle products crowd store shelves. However, a new report from ABC News reveals that some of these anti-aging efforts may be reaching new levels, both of extremity and expense. The report claims that there is a growing trend of women in their 20s seeking costly and sometimes major medical treatments to prevent wrinkles from forming. The manufacturers of an anti-aging skin cream called DermaVeratrol, meanwhile, say that these measures are largely unnecessary.

The ABC News report highlights two non-surgical treatments in particular. The first is Botox injections, long a staple in celebrity beauty regiments. The second is a newer technology called thermage, essentially a radio frequency treatment that is designed to tighten and lift the skin. But as both ABC and DermaVeratrol note, these treatments can prove enormously expensive.

Indeed, the makers of DermaVeratrol say that their product is not only a less costly option, but that it is every bit as effective in keeping skin youthful and vibrant. Bryan VanAlmkerk, the President of DermaVeratrol, says the product is well worth the consideration of young women seeking preventative beauty techniques. Rather than spending 3500 per application, consumers can try a product that is paraben free and works fast on the skin, based on consumer testimonials, he notes.

DermaVeratrol has long been known not just for its anti-aging effects, including tightening and moisturizing of the skin, but also for its toxin-free chemical makeup. The products lack of parabens is one of the many chemical facets that set it apart.

The ABC News report does not go as far as to say that young women should abandon preventative beauty treatments. In fact, ABC claims that the key to good skin is early engagement. However, the report does claim that the Botox and thermage treatments are far too costly, and that young women can find affordable methods that are every bit as effective.

Some of these less expensive beauty tips involve the prevention of skin damage. The article notes that one of the best ways young women can affordably cut beauty costs is to avoid prolonged sun exposure or tanning beds.

ABC quotes one dermatologist as saying that Botox and thermage are not ineffective, but that they are simply major investments that are typically not necessary. Products like DermaVeratrol are priced much lower, and mere avoidance of tanning beds does not cost a dime.

ABOUT:

DermaVeratrol is an anti-aging product that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The product is made with a variety of vitamins, antioxidants, and naturally occurring ingredients, among them resveratrol. Additionally, DermaVeratrol is able to moisturize the skin, improving the health of the complexion and safeguarding against new signs of aging. The Ultimate Peace: America’s Challenge in the Middle East

($ 20.00) ISBN: 978-1-4349-0240-5, paperback

Concerned with the current situation in the Middle East, Dr. Charbel E-H Moussa gives insight into the conflicts within the region and its relations with the U.S. The post-9/11 era and the U.S. war in Iraq have developed a strange group of allies, giving the U.S. an “unprecedented opportunity” to stabilize the Middle East by taking advantage of subtle alliances. Dr Moussa calls on the U.S. to capitalize on this situation, offering solutions for improving the Middle East from within and establishing what he calls a New Mediterranean.

By providing background for the tensions that exist in the Middle East today, Dr. Moussa seeks to raise awareness and emphasize the importance of understanding cultural differences as a step toward reconciling them. If peaceful development is utilized rather than forceful strategies, he contends that a U.S. presence in Iraq can serve a purpose in achieving “The Ultimate Peace.”

About the Author

Dr. Charbel E-H Moussa is a recipient of a Bachelor of Science degree (with honors in politics and psychology), and a combined Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree from the University of Sydney-Australia. He is a member of several professional associations, and he is also president of the American Lebanese Assembly. Dr. Moussa currently lives with his wife in Washington D.C. and works at Georgetown University.

Depression: How Psychotherapy and Other Treatments Help People Recover

($ 10.00) ISBN: 978-0-8059-7666-3, paperback

“Since the existence of humanity, abnormal behaviors have been present in individuals,” Jesse M. Cooper states in the introduction to his study of the different types of psychological treatments available to depressed patients. In a formal, systematic analysis, Cooper presents a series of studies, outcomes, and conclusions, combining the psychologists’ comments and his own commentary to take the results to a different level and apply them to other situations.

In combination with these studies, the author supplies statistics and history related to the study of depression and other mental disorders and the causes and symptoms involved. For those unfamiliar with them, terms are clearly defined in a glossary in the back of the book. Cooper’s Depression: How Psychology and Other Treatments Help People Recover, as an informative introduction to the treatment of depression, provides a wealth of factual data and remarks that may help us understand this complicated subject.

About the Author

A native of Liberia, Jesse M. Cooper Sr. holds a Ph.D. in psychology and is a family service specialist. He now lives in Sewell, New Jersey, with his wife, Gertrude. They have four children: Varney, Welma, Jessica, and Jesse Jr. In addition to writing, Cooper also enjoys reading.

This Sugar Is Coated with Quinine!

($ 14.00) ISBN: 978-1-4349-0118-7, paperback

During his own fruitful marriage, Charles Ebereonwu has witnessed the tumultuous stories of many people’s marital upheavals and the alarming rate at which families break up, resulting in the disasters of stressed single parents and distraught children caught between “opposing forces.”

In This Sugar Is Coated with Quinine! Mr. Ebereonwu explores the tribulations of Ken and Helen, a couple whose marriage is in dire trouble, only to come to the conclusion that with sacrifice, tolerance, and perseverance, every marital problem eventually expires, leaving the couples the best of friends. Marriage, Mr. Ebereonwu asserts, like any other worthwhile human endeavor, comes with challenges that need to be confronted with a positive attitude. He compares giving up and quitting to a student who drops out of school because some courses are difficult and their lecturers hard to please. The key to marital success, as Mr. Ebereonwu demonstrates, through Ken and Helen’s story (a story stunningly similar to that of their near relatives), lies in the partners’ mutual commitment to their bondmost especially when children are involved.

About the Author

Charles Tochi Ebereonwu is a university-trained accountant who has had a longtime interest in marital dynamics. He is a native and current resident of Nigeria, where he resides with his wife and four children. In his leisure time, Mr. Ebereonwu enjoys reading, thinking, and writing. His previous works include a novel, Lost Laurel, and two anthologies of poetry, Burdens of Solitude and Beyond the Storm.
