Kevin Clancy Receives Coveted Grand Prize at the ARFs Great Minds Awards

Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 28, 2012

The Advertising Research Foundation (ARF) has selected Kevin J. Clancy, Ph. D., chairman of Copernicus Marketing Consulting and Research, as the grand prize winner of the 2012 Great Minds Awards in Innovation.

When I opened the door to Copernicus almost 20 years ago, I dedicated the firm to pushing the envelope of marketing and advertising research, Kevin explains. I feel tremendously honored to have the innovative work weve doneand continue to doreceive such high praise from an organization as prestigious as the ARF.

Founded in 1936 by the Association of National Advertisers and the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the ARF is widely considered the industry’s leading authoritative source of research-based advertising knowledge. The organization received more than 300 nominations for the 2012 Great Minds Awards, which recognizes the development of the most innovative research ideas and their contributions to the marketing and advertising industries.

We had an outpouring of submissions this year recognizing the great minds in advertising research. The ARF is so proud to recognize these accomplishments, and celebrate those who truly advance the art and science of our industry, said Bob Barocci, president and CEO, ARF.

The panel of judges, all members of the advertising and research communities, selected 50 finalists from among the nominations and chose Kevin as the grand prize winner in the innovation category.

In his 9 co-authored marketing and social science books and more than 400 published papers and presentations; in his teaching at the Wharton School and Boston University; and in the three companies which he founded, Kevin has long been a pioneer in innovative marketing consulting and research.

For over three decades, he has worked with some of the best known and most loved consumer and B2B brands around the world to launch transformational marketing strategies. The innovations he has introduced to the practice marketing also earned him a 2008 induction into the esteemed Marketing Research Hall of Fame.

Among notable innovations over the course of his career:

For the past 20+ years, Kevin has shaken the profession with his published work and speeches on the topic of marketing failures. He was the first practitioner or academic to report on the negative ROI of most marketing programs, including an article in The Harvard Business Review. Kevin and his co-author Randy Stone investigated more than 300 cases where econometric models had been used to evaluate marketing performance. They discovered that average ROI was negative and for packaged goods specifically, it was a paltry 45 cents on the dollar.

In recent years, he has demonstrated that conventional attitudinal, lifestyle, needs state, behavioral and demographic approaches to market segmentation are not only weak in terms of actionability, but also have little to do with the profitability of alternative targets. Today, his ideas, methodologies and models on the topic of segmentation are recognized as breaking news in market segmentation practice. His work culminated in the publication of a chapter on state-of-the-science market segmentation in the recently-published anthology, Leading Edge Marketing Research.

Kevin has developed unique tools for marketing best practices auditing, measuring buyer involvement, marketing IQ, brand equity and product trial given awareness and availability. He has created and published mathematical models for simulating new product performance, optimizing a media plan, forecasting new product and new campaign awareness and simulating the performance of alternative positioning strategies.

He has published R&D studies on the reliability of advertising testing, measuring dissimulation in survey studies, assessing problems with acquiescence and social desirability response set, measuring the relationship between opinion leadership and blogging across 24 different product categories and the positive relationship between television program involvement and advertising effectiveness.

Kevins latest innovation is a positioning simulation model which is not grounded in problematic derived importance analysis; it doesnt rely on statistical/correlation analysis at all. A key to the new model is a construct labeled “Behavioral Predisposition,” a measure which captures perceptions of each brand on every attribute and benefit, multiplied by the same attributes motivating power for a given respondent, and then summed over all attributes and benefits.

Lately Kevin has focused his energy writing and speaking about inspirational, aspirational, transformational marketing strategies. By transformational he literally means a strategy that is so strong, so powerful, that it changes brand trajectories, career paths, sometimes entire companies and even industries. His firm has developed a book of transformational case histories to demonstrate the power of such an approach. The key to such a strategy is finding the most profitable target group, developing a powerful preemptive positioning strategy based on genuine buyer needs and harnessing the best of contemporary digital technology.

University at Buffalo Law School Alumna Awards Promise Prize

Buffalo, NY (Vocus) September 22, 2008 -

University at Buffalo Law School alumna, and Promise Prize creator, Vikki L. Pryor, presented the seventh annual Marie Nesbitt Promise Prize award to Siana McLean, a second-year law student at UB Law, at the Minority Bar Association of Western New York’s 26th Annual Awards and Scholarship Dinner.

The $ 5,000 Promise Prize is granted annually to a first-year UB Law student of African American descent who has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement and professional promise. Pryor created the award in 2002 in memory of her grandmother, Marie Nesbitt, a great-granddaughter of slaves whose formal education stopped at the third grade. Nesbitt was a woman of strong opinions and deeply held principles who inspired everyone with whom she came in contact. In keeping with Marie Nesbitt’s influence, the award is intended to foster a legacy of giving in support of young people working to achieve their dreams.

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, and a Canadian immigrant, McLean is no stranger to change, challenge, or to success. Before attending law school at the University at Buffalo, where she is now ranked in the top 25 percent of her class, McLean attended the University of Toronto and received her BA in Criminology and History. She then attended Seneca College’s one-year, accelerated paralegal program. McLean’s decision to attend law school was heavily influenced by an extended circle of family and friends whose lives, much like hers, had been affected by immigration. McLean said, “The realization that I could change lives forever through immigration law has solidified my determination and desire to succeed.”

McLean is Vice President of the Black Law Students Association, Editor of the Buffalo Human Rights Law Review, Northeast Regional Director of the Frederick Douglas Moot Court Competition, and youth counselor and worship leader in her church. McLean has also received the Phillips Lytle Diversity Scholarship, the Mastercard Affinity Scholarship, the John Brooks Entrance Scholarship, an Opportunity Entrance Scholarship, a National Book Award, North York Women’s Scholarship and a Students’ Activities Council Scholarship.

Like Pryor, McLean has always realized the value and power of those who have offered support throughout her journey. “I am grateful to the many who have encouraged me along the way, and thankful to God and to my family for the many blessings in my life,” said McLean.

Today, Pryor serves as the president and CEO of SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company, Inc. She has led a diverse workforce of over 200 employees since 1999 in an effort to provide affordable and accessible life insurance to “the people who make America work.” SBLI USA is licensed in 49 states with offices in Buffalo, Chicago, Los Angeles, Newark, New York, and Puerto Rico.

More about the University at Buffalo Law School

Since its founding in 1887, UB Law School has established an excellent reputation and is widely regarded as a leader in legal education. Its curriculum provides both a strong theoretical foundation and the practical tools graduates need to succeed in a competitive marketplace, with a special emphasis on interdisciplinary studies, public service, and opportunities for hands-on clinical education. Each student has the opportunity to craft a custom-made curriculum, beyond the selected concentrations, drawing from numerous offerings to build a personalized sequence of courses and experiences. The school has a very low student-faculty ratio. Currently, more than 75 percent of its upper division courses are comprised of fewer than 40 students. Many of the 50 faculty members are nationally prominent and hold advanced degrees in the social sciences and other disciplines, in addition to their law degrees. Their scholarship is published widely, and they bring a wealth of practice and policy experience to UB Law.

SEIN Analytics & Asset Management Makes Post-Gigabit Challenge Plans with $100,000 Grand Prize

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) February 09, 2012

Since SEIN Analytics & Asset Management walked away with the $ 100,000 Grand Prize at The Gigabit Challenge Finale earlier this year, the Brooklyn-based startup has begun developing plans for 2012 that include hiring, creating deals, marketing and formulating new business structures.

Think Big Partners Gigabit Challenge was a global business plan competition looking for new applications to disrupt technology on the Google Fiber Network. Prizes at the awards ceremony on January 18, 2012 included the $ 100,000 Grand Prize, which was awarded to SEIN Analytics & Asset Management, the Peoples Choice Award, and a $ 250,000 Born Global Prize.

I launched our prototype and turned my attention to getting feedback from others, said Samuel Belu-John, CEO and founder of SEIN Analytics. I looked for places to present our idea to I signed up for iStart and saw The Gigabit Challenge. There was a natural fit to what Google Fiber could do and what we were doing.

SEIN Analytics & Asset Management is a new venture founded by a structured finance veteran and a team of dedicated designers, strategists and programmers. SEIN develops a data-centric cloud application for analyzing and managing asset-backed securities (ABS). The software standardizes loan level data and displays it in an easy-to-use form that financial institutions and investors can use to track and analyze ABS investments.

In a recent Silicon Prairie News article, Chris Bernard, startup specialist at Microsoft and Gigabit Challenge judge, commented that …no other company did as good a job of showing how the cloud and fiber could help businesses solve big data problems that were previously the providence of big data centers and deep pocketed customers.

When we were watching other presenters [during The Gigabit Challenge], we felt as if our numbers were too small, said Suk-Hyon Paek, COO of SEIN Analytics. But the truth of the matter is, our numbers were realistic. We were very down-to-earth about our idea. Everything we presented was based on reality.

With the $ 100,000 Grand Prize under their belts, the SEIN Analytics team plans on putting every penny from The Gigabit Challenge into launching their business. In 2012, Belu-John hopes to hire more developers to assist him in flushing out SEIN. The rest of the SEIN Analytics team plans to handle the future of the company by focusing on building strategic alliances with potential partners, increasing the deal database, refining the existing pricing models, developing a staffing plan, and creating marketing and sales initiatives.

Powerball Claims It Will Make More Millionaires With New Changes; This 7 Time Lottery Game Grand Prize Winner Says Maybe Not

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) February 01, 2012

Richard Lustig, who has won millions as a lottery player says “Obviously, the lottery has been very good to me and my family. Along with my seven game grand prizes, I’ve won dozens and dozens of smaller prizes too. But there are some things that players need to be aware of in terms of these new Powerball changes that may not benefit them.”

Powerball, the most widely played lottery game in America, has undergone significant changes to the game structure and prizes given out. Those changes are now in effect, and include what officials say will create better odds, bigger starting jackpots, and more million dollar winners. The biggest change comes if you hit 5 white numbers without the Powerball. In the past, you would win $ 200,000. With the new changes in the game that prize has been increased to a cool one million dollars; if you hit the “Power Play” you would walk away with two million.

But, as Lustig notes, to go along with the larger winnings, a single Powerball ticket will now be $ 2 per play and $ 3 with the Power Play. “I’m not sure that some of the people who will risk spending a buck on the Powerball should be throwing down two or three dollars”, says the multiple lotto winner, who advocates always playing responsibly.

Richard Lustig has shared his strategies on how to increase your chance of winning the lottery on CNN, Fox News, The Today Show Australia, The Rachael Ray Show, NPR, Sirius/XM, Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, Headline News, Good Morning America, Women’s World, The Daily Buzz, Mancow and dozens of other leading media outlets.

New African Writers to Compete for Caine Prize

(PRWEB) January 23, 2005

On January 20 AuthorMe.com, the international website for writers, nominated 19 writers for the Caine Prize for African Writing. A startling variety of stories were submitted, recognizing writers from Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Sudan, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

The Caine Prize for African Writing was established in 2000 at the Zimbabwe International Book Fair. Sir Michael Caine, former Chairman of Booker plc, was Chairman of Africa 95, and Chairman of the Booker Prize management committee for almost 25 years.

More than a typical writerÂ’s contest, the Caine Prize has become the worldÂ’s best venue for fiction stories by emerging African writers. They speak in a unique voice and represent experiences sure to arrest the worldÂ’s attention.

The submissions include excellent stories by Nmachi Nwokeabia (Nigeria), Oba Adebayo-Begun (Nigeria), Glaydah Namukasa (Uganda) , Blessing Musariri (Zimbabwe), Uchechukwu Agodom (Nigeria), John Oryem (Sudan), Chika Onuoha (Nigeria),

Valentine Ukachukwu Umelo (Nigeria), Steve Ogah (Nigeria), Anietie Isong (Nigeria), Gracious Changaya (Malawi), David L. Lukudu (Sudan),

Eyitemi Egwuenu (Nigeria), Mazi Guinness (Nigeria), Nyankami Miroro Atandi (Kenya), Valentine Ukachukwu Umelo (Nigeria), Stanley Onjezani Kenani (Malawi), Dennis Ezechukwu (Nigeria),and Fungai James Tichawangana (Zimbabwe).

Writers cannot submit stories directly to the prize committee. Instead, their works must have been published in the form of a book, magazine, or Internet magazine like AuthorMe.com.

AuthorMe’s Editorial Director, Kathy S. Hartwell, M.A., of Mountain State University, refers to the prize as “a light of hope in a continent darkened with wars and the rumors of wars.” According to Kathy, “This beam radiates from talented African writers to enlighten the world for a peaceful tomorrow. The African writers’ experiences accounted in these manuscripts exemplify the adage ‘the pen is mightier than the sword.’

“Therefore, it is with great pleasure that these manuscripts are displayed,” says Kathy. “They contain the essences human beings are to emulate–innocence, forgiveness, and love. Africa is in the process of becoming the cornerstone on which the entire world will learn to live in harmony. For that reason, these writings should be recognized, and preserved, for their inner perspectives for peace.”
