Dublin Named Europe’s #1 Destination for Poker
London, UK (PRWEB) September 4, 2008
Dublin has been awarded the title of European Poker Capital 2008 by Bluff Europe Magazine (http://www.BluffEurope.com). The Irish capital piped last year’s winner, London, to the post — with Vienna, Amsterdam and Barcelona named third, fourth and fifth places respectively. Bluff Europe praised Dublin’s lively and friendly poker scene, as well as the wealth of poker clubs and tournaments available to the poker playing public.
Dublin has a fine selection of card rooms and, poker is also growing steadily on a grassroots level in the city through poker societies and pub poker leagues. Each year exciting new tournaments spring up with buy-ins to suit all pockets. Dublin is also home to the Irish Open, the oldest and most revered tournament in Europe.
Last year’s contest saw Dublin come in a respectable second to London but this year the Irish capital was the city that most impressed the Bluff Europe panel. “Last year, in recognition of the inaugural WSOPE and the general health of its burgeoning poker scene, we chose London as the place to be. This induced a lot of snickering from across the Irish Sea, where they’re rightfully very protective of their fantastic poker scene,” said Philip Conneller, Editor of Bluff Europe. “But this year there was really only one candidate.”
“Gentleman” Liam Flood, who has been a stalwart of Irish poker since he helped introduce Hold’em to the Emerald Isle in the Seventies, was delighted with the news. “It’s because of the craic,” he explained, when asked him to describe what he felt was special about poker in Dublin. “There’s a sense of community. We find that a few drinks after the game helps you relax, too.”

Dublin, Ireland (PRWEB) December 1, 2008
The fourth annual 1,500 + 150 buy-in Belgium Poker Championship main event held at Casino de Namur, Belgium from Nov. 15 to 23, 2008 has been won by Sijbrand Maal from the Netherlands who took down the top prize of 315,875 for topping the field of 843 players.
This is the largest field ever gathered in Europe for a 1,000 + buy-in event pipping last year’s EPT Monte Carlo by one player.
Maal, from Amsterdam triumphed heads up when, with blinds of 30,000/60,000 and an ante of 5,000 he limped with Qd-8d and was raised by O’Brien preflop to 180,000 before calling. On a flop of 10d8h7d, Maal checked and O’Brien went all in with A-K and Maal snap called. The turn was the 2s and the river the 6c and Maal was crowned champion.
The chip counts going into the final table were:
Seat 1 – Fabrice Vreux, Belgium: 174,000
Seat 2 – Kristof Segers, Belgium: 153,000
Seat 3 – Colm O’Brien, Ireland: 1,571,000
Seat 4 – Jolmer Meelis, Holland: 532,000
Seat 5 – Carlo Giovanni, Belgium: 120,000

Seat 10 – Xavier Closset, Belgium: 120,000
Play began with blinds at 5,000/10,000 and a 1,000 ante. In the first hour four players had hit the rail. First to go was Alain Dubreuille in 10th. Maal called a check-raise all in on a 8-3-2 rainbow flop with 5-5 and won the hand against A-Q
Next out in 9th was Kristof Segers with A-T vs. O’Brien’s A-Q all in preflop with O’Brien winning on a 9-high board. Xavier Closset busted in 8th against Giovanni with 5-5 vs. A-Q on T-6-6-x-T board while Maal took his second scalp, Di Salvo finishing in 7th, with A-9 vs. Q-J all in preflop and a board fell 9-6-4-T-5.
Halfway through the next level of 6,000/12,000 O’Brien knocked out Vreux with A-J vs. K-Q on a board of J-4-2-3-9 and the players were now down to five with 4.2 million chips in play.
The next notable hand saw Giovanni in the small blind complete and Fontenoy in the big blind check. The flop was 6-5-5 and both players checked. The turn was a jack and Giovanni went all in and was snap-called by Fontenoy. Giovanni showed J-10 for top pair while Fontenoy showed 5-2 offsuit for trip fives.

Play continued for four hours three-handed with the chips circulating around the table.
Jolmer finally busted in 3rd place pushing all in preflop with K-7 only to find O’Brien with Q-Q which held up.

Danes — Definitely the Best Poker Players in the World
Dubline, Ireland (PRWEB) December 19, 2008
In November 2008 three Danish Poker Players won $ 10 million dollars in the space of seven days, winning the World Series of Poker main event, the Amsterdam Master Classics main event, and the Ladbrokes European Online Championship of Poker IV main event.
Back in July 2008 Card Player Media research proclaimed that Danes were the most successful tournament players, per capita, in the world with “World Tracker” its sophisticated tournament player tracking tool.
The recent string of incredible results by Danes vindicates World Tracker as the world’s leading indicator of tournament success.
Firstly online whizz “hahila” won the main event at LEOCOP IV for $ 229,500, then Peter Eastgate, at 22 years-old, became the youngest ever world champion at the World Series of Poker winning $ 9,152,416, before veteran World Series of Poker bracelet winner Jan Sorensen won $ 800,972 at the Amsterdam Master Classics main event.
Much like the Olympics, Card Player uses an extensive list of qualifying tournaments (including WSOP, WPT, and EPT events). World Tracker awards Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals to the countries whose citizens come first, second, and third in major international tournaments.

Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott Notches up First Poker Victory of 2009 Before Hitting Aussie Millions
London, England (PRWEB) January 9, 2009
Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, ambassador for http://www.DevilfishPoker.com, got his New Year off to a flying start with a victory over 126 opponents in the 750 side event at the recent Irish Poker Championship in Galway. He collected 33,000 for his win after dominating the tournament from the early stages and amassing a massive chip lead which he used to play text book loose-aggressive poker.
Three-handed he was up against the formidable Surinder Sunar who recently won the pot-limit Omaha event at the Amsterdam Master Classics and Donal Norton who was runner-up in the 2008 Irish Open but his chip advantage and relentless aggression saw him bulldoze his way to victory.
Ulliott, who now heads to Melbourne for the Aussie Millions, said, “I got a lot of chips early in the tournament which meant players were moving in with all sorts of marginal hands. I got lucky once against Paul Jackson with A-J against his queens and when I got heads up against Surindar Sunar I don’t think he won a hand. It’s great to get the year off to a winning start and I hope I can continue the form Down Under.”
