BioPlus Launches TAP App for Physicians to Monitor Patient Specialty Pharmacy Treatments

Altamonte Springs, FL (PRWEB) April 16, 2012

BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy (BioPlus), one of the nations leading specialty pharmacies, has launched TAP App, a new proprietary, secure web-based portal that connects physicians with extensive information about their patients who are being treated through our specialty pharmacy. This intuitive application, which can be easily accessed by doctors via their tablet or laptop at any time, allows physicians to monitor their patients from initial intake through benefit verification and shipping. In addition, outcome data, such as medication adherence issues, medication possession ratios (MPRs), adverse drug reactions (ADRs), and other interactions with patients are all quickly and easily available to physicians.

From 28 percent to 95 percent of adverse drug events can be prevented by lessening medication errors through the use of computerized monitoring systems, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. As one example, AHRQ notes that computerized medication order entry could potentially prevent up to 84 percent of dose, frequency, and route errors in medication use.

Our new TAP App for physicians is right in line with AHRQs suggestion of leveraging technology to eliminate medication errors, says Dr. Stephen Vogt, president and CEO of BioPlus. Aside from the obvious benefit to patients health, diminishing medical errors lowers costs, especially in light of a study earlier this year in the journal Health Affairs finding that the estimated total cost of measurable medical errors in the United States is $ 17.1 billion annually, with the most frequent medical injuries being adverse events associated with medications. In fact, as another article in that issue noted: for every dollar spent on health care in the U.S., as much as 45 cents is related to a medical mistake.

TAP App from BioPlus serves as a time-saver for physicians, giving hours back for patient management, while putting the pharmacy chart inside the physicians office to improve communications and decrease the administrative burden of reimbursement, prescription writing, adherence monitoring, and drug list reviews.

TAP App allows physicians to:

E-prescribe, as well as view medications dispensed and other vital data secured to their tablet or laptop
Access patients progress from initial intake through benefit verification and shipping
Login to view patient therapy assessment reports and prior authorization status
Review outcome data, such as medication adherence issues, MPRs, ADRs, and other interactions with patients.

BioPlus has a strong history as an industry leader for improving several specialty pharmacy metrics. In addition to this latest effort to lessen medication errors through TAP App, BioPlus has been improving compliance for its patients. In tracking compliance statistics for its treatment programs, BioPlus is proud to report that the latest data, which includes more than 22,000 BioPlus patients sampled from treatment programs for hepatitis C, oncology, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, Crohns disease, and other conditions, shows that BioPlus achieves a 91 percent compliance rate at discharge. The compliance rate for retail and mail-order pharmacies is only 50 percent.

Specialty Internet Pharmacy Steps Up Personalized Care, Converts Browsers to Customers With Netop Live Guide

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) November 16, 2010

To increase efficiencies in providing prompt, personalized care, Houston-based ITSRx, a specialty Internet pharmacy, turned to Netop Live Guide, the leading solution for personal communication between a company and its customers on the Web. Just three months later, ITSRx has realized a 20 percent rise in online conversions, from browsers to customers.

With licenses to provide services in more than 40 states, ITSRx serves customers with debilitating illnesses including hepatitis C, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory syncytial virus, cystic fibrosis and multiple sclerosis. Many use injectable medications, and questions – about administering a drug, side effects, drug interactions and insurance coverage – are often urgent.

With Live Guide, ITSRx customers can now click on a “live chat” link to ask questions in real time of one of the company’s customer service representatives. In addition, any ITSRx patient with access to a webcam can use the “chat with a pharmacist” feature under the Patient Services tab to schedule a private video consultation with a pharmacist at one of the company’s five pharmacy locations.

In addition to the 20 percent increase in online conversions since implementing Live Guide, at a lower cost than with any competing alternative, the company has reduced service operational costs by 25 percent. Meanwhile, customer satisfaction for Live Guide transactions outscores any other human-assisted channel.

“Live Guide has been a huge asset to our business. It’s another way to bring customers closer to us,” said Brian Smith, director of information technology at ITSRx. “If, for example, a patient has lost his medication, it’s two clicks and he’s on with live help.” The best part of Live Guide, he said, is “really being able to help people. It’s a new way to connect with patients, to help them quickly.”

With the newest version of Netop Live Guide , launched in September 2010, the “live chat” capability can be embedded directly into emails, online advertisements, social media and more. This unique communication platform is allowing companies such as ITSRx to increase campaign response rates and more quickly and easily convert prospects into customers.

When customers see the “Chat With Me” link in an email, on Twitter or Facebook, or in any online communication, they simply click on the “call” button and connect directly to a customer service representative. They can ask questions about products, find out how to get technical assistance and even make purchases without spending valuable time exchanging phone calls, emails or faxes.

“We are excited to partner with ITSRx to increase the efficiency and quality of the service the company provides to its customers,” said Netop CEO Kurt Bager. “ITSRx is an innovative, quickly expanding company with a sharp focus on providing the best possible care.”

Pricing for Netop Live Guide starts at $ 89 per month per user, with significant volume discounts. To learn more about Netop Live Guide or to request a free 14-day trial, visit http://www.netop.com/chat or click here to chat directly with Netop.

Paladin Pharmacy POS (Point-Of-Sale) Provides Prescription Relief for Independent Pharmacies’ Combat Meth Enforcement Requirements

Bend, OR (PRWEB) March 26, 2009

Although many independent pharmacy owners support the federal Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act (CMEA) and state regulatory controls on drugs used to make methamphetamine, these laws’ daily retail implementation can be cumbersome. Paper logbooks and difficult to maintain records — also ultimately ineffective for law enforcement — complicate the checkout process for cashiers and technicians and create mountains of paperwork to process, store and retrieve.

Paladin Data Corporation, a pioneering point-of-sale (POS) systems provider for nearly 30 years, applied its software experience to help these independent pharmacies affordably meet their federal and state meth-prevention requirements digitally at checkout with its compliant Paladin Pharmacy POS functions. Now, electronic signature capture and data collection and storage eliminates paper logs and reduces transaction and data entry time. PSE sales restrictions can be easily tracked, even across multiple pharmacy locations. And when law enforcement agents need records, they’re easy to recall, provide and parse.

“Even most of the large chain pharmacies’ POS systems can’t yet handle these complicated, meth-prevention transactions. But our Paladin Pharmacy POS system manages these extra CMEA and state regulations as a seamless component of normal checkout process,” says Dan Nesmith, Paladin president. “Our customers tell us that the Paladin Pharmacy POS is the independent pharmacy owner’s chance to gain an advantage in an industry increasingly dominated by large franchises.”

Paladin Pharmacy POS pricing is subscription based, requiring a very small investment to get started. Paladin Pharmacy POS customers include independent pharmacy locations across the United States. Paladin Pharmacy POS is also IIAS compliant. For more information about IIAS and SIGIS, visit http://www.sig-is.org. Paladin Data Corporation is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner. For more information about Paladin POS, go to paladinpos.com.

Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act (CMEA): What it means for pharmacies

According to the Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration’s Office of Diversion Control (http://www.DEAdiversion.usdoj.gov), state restrictions on transactions involving PSE products that can be used to make methamphetamine must match or exceed those required by the federal standard, the Combat Methamphetamine Epidemic Act (CMEA).

The CMEA requires sellers to enforce daily sales and monthly purchase limits, store stock behind the counter or in a locked cabinet, maintain written or electronic logbook of sales, keep logbook for minimum of 2 years after date of sale, confirm identification of purchaser.

The purchaser must enter his or her name, address, date and time of sale; provide photo ID issued by a State or Federal government; and sign the logbook. The logbook must document products by name, quantity sold, names and addresses of purchasers, date and time of sales.

Special Interest Group for IIAS Standards (SIGIS) Certifies Paladin Pharmacy Point-of-Sale (POS) System

Bend, OR (PRWEB) April 23, 2009

Paladin Data Corporation’s Paladin Pharmacy Point-of-Sale (POS) system was recently granted certification by the Special Interest Group for IIAS Standards (SIGIS). The SIGIS certification allows pharmacies using the Paladin Pharmacy POS to comply with new IRS inventory information approval system (IIAS) regulations for accepting FSA (Flexible Spending Account) and health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) cards.

The IIAS compliance deadline of July 1 means that many independent pharmacies must implement new point-of-sale systems capable of meeting IIAS requirements. Oregon-based Paladin Data Corporation applied its nearly 30 years of POS experience to help independent pharmacies affordably meet their federal compliance requirements with its subscription-based system.

With Paladin Pharmacy POS, a pharmacy customer can walk up to the cash register with a mix of eligible pharmacy items and other products, and the Paladin system will separate out the IIAS eligible items from the other taxable and non-taxable products purchased. The customer can then pay with multiple types of tenders: HSA/FSA/HRA debit card for the IIAS eligible pharmacy products, followed by any combination of credit/debit/gift cards, cash and/or checks for the rest of their purchase. Paladin POS handles it all instantly and automatically as a seamless part of the checkout process.

Beginning January 1 last year, the IRS required “non-healthcare” retailers, such as supermarkets, grocery stores, discount stores, warehouse clubs, and mail-order merchants, that sell medical goods and services to maintain a point-of-sale system that effectively identifies eligible transactions when consumers use flexible spending account (FSA) and health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) debit cards. IIAS-compliant transactions enable real-time, auto-substantiation for eligible medical items purchased with an FSA/HRA payment card. All non-healthcare retailers must be compliant by July.

“Some of the large chain stores’ POS systems can’t handle these complicated transactions as well as the Paladin system does,” says Dan Nesmith, Paladin president. “So Paladin POS represents an opportunity for the independent stores to gain an advantage in an industry increasingly dominated by large franchises.”

Paladin Data Corp. is a member of the Special Interest Group for IASS Standards (SIGIS), and the Paladin POS is one of the organization’s certified POS solution providers. The Paladin POS also fully integrates with the Suite-RX automated pharmacy dispensing system along with integration into the major pharmaceutical wholesalers.

Customers currently using the Paladin POS include independent pharmacy locations throughout the United States. Paladin Data Corporation is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner. For more information about IIAS and SIGIS, visit http://www.sig-is.org. For more information about Paladin POS, go to http://www.paladinpos.com.

The SIGIS IIAS standards enable a broad range of participants in health benefit payment card transactions to implement consistent systems and processes for transaction processing and data retention.

IIAS-compliant transactions enable real-time, auto-substantiation for eligible medical items purchased with an FSA/HRA payment card. Implementation of the voluntary SIGIS standard will lead to a more efficient healthcare expense payment mechanism for consumers who can continue using their FSA/HRA payment cards at participating retailers.

Pharmacy Organizations Brief Congress on Medication Therapy Management

Washington, D.C. (Vocus) June 10, 2009

Today, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS), the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) and the Iowa Pharmacy Association (IPA) held a timely Congressional briefing on the benefits of pharmacist-provided medication therapy management (MTM). NACDS’ Senior Vice President of Pharmacy Affairs and Chief Pharmacist Edith Rosato, RPh, moderated the briefing, which included participants from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy, Mirixa, and the University of Iowa. Rep. Dave Loebsack (D-IA) also addressed the informational briefing.

“As the face of neighborhood healthcare, pharmacists are medication experts, and are uniquely in tune with their patients’ medication needs and requirements,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE. “Pharmacist-provided medication therapy management enhances the pharmacist-patient relationship, improves communication and dialogue, encourages proper patient adherence to medication regimes, and provides unique and individual healthcare services, especially to those patients who suffer from chronic disease.”

The briefing panel of experts discussed patient-care benefits of MTM, the practical impact on providing healthcare to rural and underserved populations, and the cost-savings potential for inclusion within comprehensive healthcare reform legislation.

“Pharmacists are much more than the purveyors of a commodity,” said NCPA Executive Vice President and CEO, Bruce T. Roberts, RPh. “They offer a wide array of services that can maximize the benefits of medications for patients. That’s why we strongly support medication therapy management and believe those efforts can be buttressed through the legislative process. Congressman Dave Loebsack, in particular, recognizes the benefits it provides patients. Now more than ever, as we discuss healthcare reform and improving medication adherence, embracing pharmacist-provided MTM is a no-brainer.”

Research has shown that only 50 percent of patients properly adhere to their prescription drug therapy regimens, which has been estimated to impose approximately $ 177 billion annually in direct and indirect costs. This inadequate medication adherence rate is associated with about $ 47 billion annually for drug-related hospitalizations, an estimated 40 percent of nursing home admissions, and potentially $ 2,000 a year in costs for doctor visits.

“I applaud Congress for listening to the nation’s medication experts at today’s informational briefing,” continued Anderson. “Innovative pharmacy services, like MTM, have the ability to transform the healthcare delivery system in America and improve individual healthcare, encourage a healthier population while also reducing overall costs. As Congress continues their serious deliberations on comprehensive healthcare reform legislation, NACDS and our pro-patient, pro-pharmacy partners stand ready to assist them to further encourage the role and position of pharmacy in our healthcare system.”

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) represents traditional drug stores, supermarkets, and mass merchants with pharmacies. Its more than 160 chain member companies include regional chains with a minimum of four stores to national companies. NACDS members also include more than 1,000 suppliers of pharmacy and front-end products, and 85 international members representing 28 countries. Chains operate 39,000 pharmacies, and employ a total of more than 2.5 million employees, including 118,000 pharmacists. They fill more than 2.5 billion prescriptions yearly, and have annual sales of over $ 750 billion. For more information about NACDS, visit http://www.NACDS.org.

Mirixa Corporation, sponsored by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), is the leader in targeted patient care services delivered via the nation’s largest pharmacy based patient care network. Dedicated to improving patients’ health, Mirixa enables the healthcare community to deliver patient care services through retail pharmacy. For more information, visit http://www.Mirixa.com. NCPA, founded in 1898, represents the nation’s community pharmacists, including the owners of more than 23,000 pharmacies. The nation’s independent pharmacies, independent pharmacy franchises, and independent chains dispense nearly half of the nation’s retail prescription medicines. CanadaDrugs.com Stands with other Canadian International Association Pharmacy Members (CIPA) Against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)

Winnipeg, Manitoba (PRWEB) January 18, 2012

Joining with other major Internet sites, such as Wikipedia, Reddit, Boing Boing, and WordPress, CanadaDrugs.com and other members of the Canadian International Pharmacy Association on January 18th will participate in the Internet Blackout movement to protest Congress proposed anti-piracy legislation.

Canada Drugs wants to raise awareness amongst its online customers on the threat that The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and its Senate counterpart, the Protect IP Act (PIPA) pose to their freedom of choice. Over a million Americans who currently turn to licensed, legitimate online Canadian and International Pharmacies as an affordable alternative for their prescription drug purchases could see their choice limited or taken away by the vague and overly broad language that these acts are written in. They are designed to protect the interests of U.S. businesses and fight counterfeiting, but closer examination of the bills makes it clear that they reach too broadly and could seriously affect how tens of millions of Americans access and use the internet, as well as force the shutdown of legitimate websites such as CanadaDrugs.com and other CIPA members.

On January 18th, Canada Drugs homepage will display a splash banner that informs customers of the threat SOPA/PIPA pose to Americans ability to order safe, affordable prescription medications from Canadian pharmacies. SOPA/PIPA also raise fears of Internet Blacklists, increased censorship and the potential to stop innovation and dynamism of the Internet due to over regulation and government interference.

Of particular concern to CanadaDrugs.com and its customers is the vague and broadly written language that could threaten licensed, certified CIPA.com and PharmacyChecker.com websites with forced shutdown. Taking away the only source of safe, affordable medication for over a million American seniors, and others that use Canadian pharmacies. Canada Drugs also will alert its customers that SOPA inappropriately groups together legitimate pharmacy websites that sell safe brand name medication and require a prescription from each patients personal physician, with dangerous rogue pharmacies that dont adhere to CIPA and Pharmacy Checker guidelines on prescriptions and product safety.

These bills would cut off access to the legitimate Canadian pharmacies that hundreds of thousands of Americans rely on each year to access their needed medicines at an affordable price, said Brock Gunter-Smith, Chief Business Development Officer for Canada Drugs. If Congress makes it harder for their citizens to buy from pharmacies like Canada Drugs that adhere to safety guidelines, require prescriptions, and sell brand name and generic products, than in their search for affordable prescription drugs they will be more, not less likely to purchase from dangerous foreign rogues.

After the January 18th Internet Blackout, Canada Drugs and other CIPA members will continue to advocate along with senior citizens groups such as RxRights.com, to press for sensible solutions that allow Americans freedom of choice in purchasing safe, affordable prescription medication from reputable online sources.

Peter Ax, CEO of Prescription Medication Provider KwikMed.com, Appointed to Online Pharmacy Regulatory Board

Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) August 10, 2010

Peter Ax joined fellow experts and thought leaders in healthcare delivery as an appointed board member of the Online Prescribing, Dispensing and Facilitation Board of the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) in Utah on July 1, 2010. This board is the first regulatory body in the U.S. created to license and monitor legitimate online pharmacies and to eliminate “rogue” Internet pharmacies.

Since acquiring KwikMed in 2001, Ax has worked with regulators and healthcare experts to transform the company from a rogue pharmacy into a leader in the delivery of healthcare online.

“KwikMed has been focused on creating “best practices” for the delivery of online healthcare by working with regulators and with thought leaders in healthcare delivery,” says Ax.

Axs appointment was endorsed by Governor Herbert who currently sits on the National Governors Association’s Health and Human Services Committee and the Healthcare Reform Task Force.

“I am delighted to have been appointed by Governor Herbert to serve the citizens of Utah and elsewhere as a representative on the first regulatory board of its kind, which has been designed to regulate online pharmacies and Internet websites focused on increasing access, lowering costs and providing extraordinary quality care online.” says Peter Ax

KwikMed recently played an important role in the creation of the nations first law regulating online pharmacy business practices. Legislators relied on the KwikMed business model to create standards. KwikMeds business model includes the use of an “intelligent” branching online medical assessment tool . A patients medical history is then reviewed individually by licensed physicians via the Internet.

Ax joined legislators for the signing of S.B. 274 on March 30, 2010 which passed unanimously. As part of the newly passed law, the Online Prescribing, Dispensing and Facilitation Board of the DOPL was created to monitor and enforce the regulatory oversight.

Currently, KwikMed is the only online pharmacy granted regulatory approval to prescribe approved medications online with its proprietary online medical assessment. KwikMed only treats conditions that can be safely diagnosed and treated without a face-to-face visit with the physician. These conditions currently include erectile dysfunction, male pattern hair loss and smoking cessation.
