Team Honda, Toyota and Nissan — First Carbon Neutral Dealerships in Georgia

AutoNation stores in Lithia Springs offset their Carbon Footprint. Team Honda, Team Toyota and Team Nissan of Lithia Springs, Georgia, already had an extensive recycling program in place for their used tires and oil when they decided to take the next step and offset their carbon footprint, becoming the first carbon neutral dealerships in Georgia.

“We found out that energy use was 90 percent of our carbon footprint” said the Controller of Team Honda, Toyota and Nissan, Clarence Ratcliffe. “It’s our job to make sure our dealerships run efficiently. Saving energy and natural resources have the benefit of helping the environment. Our customers were so impressed with our waiting room recycling unit that they’ve asked us where they can buy one too. We also reduced waste by giving each employee DCI Thermal Porcelain Cups, which eliminated the need for Styrofoam.”

All AutoNation dealerships, Team’s parent company, make it easy for car buyers to shop for more fuel-efficient vehicles with its E-Vehicle program. The program identifies cars and trucks that produce at least 28 miles per gallon or deliver 10 percent better fuel efficiency than average for their class. AutoNation also singles out what they call “F-vehicles” with a yellow leaf logo; these are cars and trucks that use flex-fuel technology.

“The three dealerships are taking responsibility for their carbon emissions,” said Verus Carbon Neutral’s Eric Taub, whose company measured the footprint and provided the offsets. “Seems especially appropriate when you offer hybrids that get anywhere from 35 to over 50 miles per gallon,” adds Taub. “Bottom line, they are trying to lower their electricity use but are still dependent on the grid. Until the local utilities employ more renewable energy, 50 mpg cars and offset projects help to reduce emissions.”

Team Honda, Toyota and Nissan decided to use a Georgia forestry project, managed by Valley Wood Timber, to offset their carbon footprint. The project is actively managed to sequester CO2 in a sustainable manner that protects over 60,000 acres of forest habitat. Proceeds support the Humane Society. Additionally, Team Lithia Springs also promotes Georgia Beautification license plate tags.

Business cars boost for Nissan as second new car is confirmed for Sunderland

It follows the news at last months Geneva Motor Show that Sunderland will also produce a mainstream B-segment compact car based on the INVITATION concept (above) from next year, when the LEAF electric car is also introduced to the assembly lines and a battery manufacturing plant will be fully operational on adjacent land together with a specialist academy for the new technology.

The new medium hatchback announced today has not yet been named and will create an additional 225 jobs at Nissan and 900 at component companies supplying Nissan in the UK. Combined, both models will result in more than 3,000 new jobs being created in the UK automotive sector within the next two years 625 at Nissan and the remainder across the supply base.

LEAF will be made on the Qashqai lines and some of these will be transferred to Russia by 2014 to help meet a 66pc jump in orders for the model there and to overcome harsh import tariffs.

Once recruitment for both models is complete, the Sunderland Plant workforce will stand at a record 6,225 supporting an overall annual plant volume of more than half a million units.

The Nissan business car news comes as workers in Honda’s operation in Swindon resume full operations after what the Japanese company’s European chief described as a “very difficult year” in 2011 when it had to halve output due to severe shortages in the Far Eastern supply chain caused by components companies devastated by the spring tsunami. This is also excellent company car news for fleet managers who will have better supplies and wider choice available to them.

Bovat has tried some unique ways to get attract the media so reaching out to Donald Trump is not unusual. In the last 17 months she’s done a dozen press releases, standup comedy, spoken twice at the state capital at legislative hearings and blogged about her friendship with the editor of the Tennessean. Sharyn says “this whole situation is getting out of control; my blood pressure is 153 over 93 and the stress of these charges is affecting my health”.

Frustrated that the Tennessee media ignores the discrimination she whistle blew about at NISSAN (internal statistics have shown that women in management declined from 20.9% to 10% in a 3 year time period). Sharyn Bovat has blogged that her story has been squashed due to issues about the presidents pet project the electric car http://www.gannettmcnews.com.

Bovat has repeatedly said on her blogs the DOE is wasting too much taxpayer money and she followed up by filing a complaint with the DOE Inspector General Gregory Friedman.

In reference to the DOE loan she has filed a complaint with the DOE and sent a certified letter to the Inspector General Gregory Friedman. Bovat also sent certified letters to members of the committee questioning Solyndra including Rep. Fred Upton & Rep. Cliff Stearns, Bovats web stats show that a Solyndra IP address looked at her blog 1142 times. Last month Sharyn blogged about a contract NYC signed giving 1 billion dollar deal to NISSAN for taxis built after 2013. Bovat says that NISSAN is directly connected to a company doing business in Iran: Via there alliance partner Renault & she would like Donald Trump to ask the candidates about this.

The taxi being built for NYC has the platform of the NV200 is built on the modified Renault-Nissan B-Alliance platform. According to Wiki “As well as sharing a number of engines in the alliance and joint-development of zero-emissions technology, Nissan increased its presence in Europe by badging various Renault van models.”

Sharyn says shes been stressed because the problems in Tennessee are big. The state was ranked #1 in corruption according to the Daily Beast in 2010.

Bovat who has twice testified at legislative hearings says theres hope that the state will become more transparent saying “I’ve met a lot of hard working members of the Tennessee legislature and I have hope that change will happen in Tennessee…”

In reference to Sharyn’s legal battle as of now the prosecution against her continues. Sharyns blood pressure last night was 153/93 and shes tired of blogging about corruption. Sharyn says her goal in 2012 is for her to have a “normal” life.

Sharyn hopes this is her last press release on this issue but is anticipating another one soon. She got a letter from the IRS about her 2009 tax return. Bovat has reached out to Rep. Marsha Blackburn about this issue and then spoke to official at the IRS. In 2009 Bovat paid for the NISSAN executive’s satellite dish, washer dryer and other relocation expenses with her credit card and NISSAN did reimburse her but the IRS now wants taxes paid on the reimbursement. The IRS representative told her to get NISSAN to issue an amended 1099 and as of now they have not. Sharyn says I refuse to pay almost $ 1,500 in taxes for someone else’s stuff. Bovat has until January 12th & documented that she asked for the amended 1099 in 2010 saying “this is ridicules, then again her whole situation is ridicules”. Sadly it continues.
