April 4, 2009 – DC Lincoln Memorial Rally Against Racial Supremacism

Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 20, 2009

Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) is holding a public rally to challenge resurgent racial supremacism in America on April 4, 2009 – the day that Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in 1968. The rally will be held at the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool’s steps from 4 to 6 PM on April 4.

We will address the disgraceful resurgence of racial supremacism as documented in the Southern Poverty Law Center’s reports, ask for signatures to our online petition rejecting supremacism, and call for a new direction in fighting racial and other supremacism. We challenge those racial supremacists who would seek to promote the hate of the past and the supremacist lie that denies that all men and women are created equal. We plan to tell those racial supremacists who seek to rebuild a network of racial-based hatred — never again!

Details and logistics can be found on our website at: http://www.realcourage.org/2009/03/aprilrally/

Why Me Must Challenge Supremacism Now

As we face challenges with our economy and unrest, there are those supporters of racial hate and supremacism who seek to gain new members to their ranks of racial supremacist organizations. There are those who seek to leverage the fact that our president is an African-American to further division and hatred among us. As the Southern Poverty Law Center’s reports show, there are those who have the goal to expand a network of racial supremacist groups around America.

April is a month where the threat of racial supremacism is frequently remembered. It was on April 4, 1968 in Tennessee where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. Also in Tennessee, white supremacists Paul Schlesselman and Daniel Cowart are scheduled for trial this April for their alleged plots to assassinate Barack Obama and to kill numerous African-Americans. (Schlesselman and Cowart had already attacked an African-American church in Tennessee in October.)

April 14 is the date that white supremacist John Wilkes Booth murdered our President Abraham Lincoln. April 19 is the date that white supremacist-linked terrorist Timothy McVeigh bombed the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995 killing 168 and injuring 800. April 20 is when white supremacist Neo-Nazis celebrate the birthdate of their idol Adolf Hitler.

But although April has been remembered as a month where the threat of racial supremacists has been remembered, April is also a month where the forces of hate and supremacism have been challenged.

April is also the month when the Confederate Army and the forces of slavery surrendered. April is also the month when the Civil Rights bills of 1866 and 1968 were signed. April is the month that slavery was abolished here in the District of Columbia. April is the month where apartheid white supremacists lost their control of South Africa. Most importantly, April is the month when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his last speech to America with a voice of courage, a voice of conviction, and a voice of hope about our commitment to equality and liberty. On April 3, he said that “I’ve seen the promised land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!”

He saw that we are more than our fears, more than our divisions. He saw that despite the most concerted efforts of those who sought to fill our hearts with hate, humanity still held love and fellowship in the core of its heart. He saw that it was that our common bond of humanity, of our shared inalienable rights of equality and liberty, that would get us there to a new hope for all people.

So we ask you to join us in hope and love, in peace and fellowship, defiant as free men and women of all kinds, standing together this April to make our own statement in history. We ask you to join us this April 4, 2009 to tell those who seek to divide us by hate and fear and those who seek to spread supremacism among us — that they will not win and that we will never surrender on humanity’s inalienable rights of equality and liberty.

We are not afraid.

Rally Logistics:

Our rally will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Saturday April 4, at the reflecting pool steps in front of the Lincoln Memorial (not the Lincoln Memorial steps). We are recommending that attendees take public transportation via the Washington subway to either the Foggy Bottom metro stop and walk south to the Lincoln Memorial, or the Smithsonian metro stop and walk west along the National Mall and 17th street to Lincoln Memorial (see details below).

Important note – the reflecting pool steps where our rally will be located is on the east side of the 23rd street that goes between the Lincoln Memorial itself and the reflecting pool in front of it.

The Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC is on the far end of the National Mall and bisects 23rd Street. It can be reached from Constitution Avenue from Henry Bacon Drive and from Independence Avenue from Henry French Drive. Limited parking may be available on Independence Avenue or Madison Avenue near the National Mall, or at the Jefferson Memorial. However, parking in Washington DC is scarce, and using public transportation is strongly recommended.

EarthCam to Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 With Release of Time-Lapse Video Chronicling 9/11 Memorial Construction

New York, NY (PRWEB) September 07, 2011

EarthCam, the international webcam technology experts, will today unveil its official 10 year time-lapse video of the construction progress and rebuilding efforts at the World Trade Center in New York City. The video will premiere at this mornings 11am ET briefing on the World Trade Center Development in collaboration with the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, EarthCams partner in providing its exclusive webcam technology.

Within days of the September 11, 2001 attacks, EarthCam installed a live robotic webcam overlooking the World Trade Center site. The one-of-a-kind camera was mounted atop a location, provided by Riese Restaurants, adjacent to the site. Throughout the rescue and recovery efforts, people were able to rely on EarthCam to provide instant updates. For more than 87,000 hours, EarthCam has archived millions of images and continues to document the rebuilding effort using the latest webcam technology.

The first camera, installed in 2001, generated .07 megapixel (320 x 240 pixels) images that updated every 3 to 5 minutes using first-generation cellular wireless technology. As technology advanced over the years, EarthCam was able to add additional cameras that now provide streaming video and produce high-definition 288 megapixel images of the 16-acre site. One of several dedicated cameras atop the Millenium Hilton creates multi-layer widescreen megapixel panoramas (29376 x 9792 pixels), delivering an impressive aerial view.

EarthCam has donated this powerful and historic record of the rebuilding effort to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. EarthCam recently added another live camera located across the Hudson River in New Jersey to give viewers the opportunity to see the new World Trade Center towers as they rise in the lower Manhattan skyline.

EarthCams lens, trained on the World Trade Center site for the past decade, has given people a unique and unprecedented view of the rebuilding, said 9/11 Memorial President and CEO Joe Daniels. Even after the Memorial is dedicated on the 10th anniversary, EarthCams footage will stand as an important historic record, evidence of our ability to come together and rebuild with strength and dedication in the wake of tragedy.

The World Trade Center cameras are available on a public web page that EarthCam created for the project to spread awareness about the Memorial. The web page offers multiple views of the construction site, allowing viewers to see the construction efforts for themselves and stay up-to-date on all progress.

To see these cameras live, visit http://www.earthcam.com/worldtradecenter.

EarthCam is honored to be documenting the construction of the 9/11 Memorial and is proud to share this remarkable project with the world, said Brian Cury, CEO and Founder of EarthCam. 10 years ago, we installed a camera to show the world a live view of the Ground Zero site and create a visual time capsule. Our goal was to not only ensure that people would never forget’, but also allow future generations to see how our great nation came together to rebuild this significant landscape to honor the lives that were lost on September 11th.

ABOUT THE 9/11 MEMORIAL

The National September 11 Memorial & Museum is the not-for-profit corporation created to oversee the design, raise the funds, and program and operate the Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center site. The Memorial and Museum will be located on eight of the 16 acres of the site. The Memorial will be dedicated on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and will open to the public the following day. The Museum will open in 2012.

The Memorial will remember and honor the nearly 3,000 people who died in the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. The design, created by Michael Arad and Peter Walker, consists of two pools formed in the footprints of the original Twin Towers and a plaza of trees.

The Museum will display monumental artifacts linked to the events of 9/11, while presenting intimate stories of loss, compassion, reckoning and recovery that are central to telling the story of the 2001 attacks and the aftermath. It will communicate key messages that embrace both the specificity and the universal implications of the events of 9/11; document the impact of those events on individual lives, as well as on local, national, and international communities; and explore the continuing significance of these events for our global community.

When the Memorial opens, construction will continue on the other World Trade Center projects and free visitor passes will be temporarily required. To plan a visit to the Memorial or learn how to contribute, go to 911memorial.org.

Biggest ZOMBIE Movie of All Time Sets 3D Premiere at Legendary Rocker Johnny Ramone’s Memorial Tribute

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) August 21, 2009

The original 1968 version of the mother of all zombie films, George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead”, has risen from the dead — literally — as the film’s 3D conversion is complete and its world premiere is now set. San Diego based 3D producer PassmoreLab, in conjunction with the Johnny Ramone Army, has confirmed that the World Premiere of the movie will take place at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 3, 2009, as a part of the 5th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute.

Ramones’ guitarist Johnny Ramone created the enduring template for punk rock guitar. With his blazing power chords and brutal licks energizing Ramones’ classics like “Blitzkrieg Bop”, “Rockaway Beach” and “Sheena is a Punk Rocker”, Johnny inspired generations of punk bands until his untimely death from prostate cancer in 2004, at age 55. His annual tribute, now in its fifth year and attended by thousands of fans, takes place at the foot of his 8 ft. memorial bronze statue inside the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

“Johnny was a huge horror movie buff, and ‘Night of the Living Dead’ was one of his top ten horror film favorites of all time. We’ve started a tradition screening some of Johnny’s favorite movies, paired in a double feature with vintage Ramones concerts each year at the annual tribute,” said John Cafiero, Chief of Staff of the Johnny Ramone Army. “We are working with PassmoreLab on another project, and it was just great timing and a perfect fit to show ‘Night of the Living Dead 3D’ for the very first time at the tribute. You couldn’t ask for a better setting It’s going to be spectacular.”

“Night of the Living Dead”, originally shot in black and white over 40 years ago, was painstakingly restored, colorized and converted, frame by frame into full 3D using Passmorelab’s proprietary technology. The process, which took over 12 months to complete at a cost greater than the film’s original production budget, was no small feat.

“I am a huge fan of this movie, and so it had to be done with complete precision,” said Greg Passmore, president of PassmoreLab. “We love the genre and as cult classics go, this is mother of them all. If you are going to convert a horror classic, this is the one you want to see in 3D.”

“Night of the Living Dead” is perhaps one of the greatest low budget cult movies ever made and is certainly one of the most influential. Its brutally harrowing documentary-style shooting can be seen in many latter-day films including “The Blair Witch Project” and “Cloverfield”, which earned hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide, respectively.

“Night of the Living Dead” was #9 on Bravo’s 100 Scariest Movie Moments and #4 on Johnny Ramone’s top ten list of horror movies. In 2001, the American Film Institute (AFI) named the film to a list of 100 important thrillers.

“We think fans of the film, young and old, will really like zombies in 3D,” said Steve Glum, PassmoreLab’s head of Branding & Distribution. “For the purists out there, this is the original film, converted into 3D for everyone to enjoy again, but now in 3D for the first time. The fact that we are premiering it at the cemetery will just add to the history of the film and its enduring legacy as one of the greatest of all time.”

The World Premiere of “Night of the Living Dead 3D” and the Johnny Ramone Tribute event are open to the public for a $ 10 per person minimum donation entrance fee with net proceeds benefiting the Johnny Ramone prostate cancer research fund at USC Westside Prostate Cancer Center lead by Dr. David Agus. Gates for the event will open at 5:30pm, and picnic dinners, drinks (including alcohol), pillows, blankets and small chairs are permitted. Attendees of the event will get free commemorative 3D glasses upon entering. Celebrity guest speakers will be in attendance and autograph signings will be scheduled with sole surviving founding member, Ramones drummer & producer Tommy Ramone, and youngest member CJ Ramone. Rare memorabilia will be exhibited along with an art show (curated by Barbara Ramone), of original paintings by the legendary Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone, who will receive special homage at the event, as well. Opening featurettes include animated music videos from the Johnny Ramone Army and Osaka Popstar, presented for the first time anywhere in 3D by PassmoreLab. The evening concludes with a vintage Ramones concert shot in 1977 entitled “Its Alive” and the world premiere of “Night of the Living Dead 3D”.

“Johnny felt this movie was shot amazingly and looked genuinely scary,” said Linda Ramone, wife of the legendary guitarist. “He would have been thrilled that the 3D version of the original ‘Night of the Living Dead’ had its world premiere at his tribute. He loved horror movies and he loved the polarized 3D exhibits, so experiencing one of his favorite films that way is something Johnny would have really enjoyed. It’s perfect for the event.”

“Night of the Living Dead 3D” can be seen in selected US theatres and in wide release in 3D theaters in Europe, starting in October. “Night of the Living Dead 3D” will be available in anaglyph DVD on Amazon.com by Christmas, and a 3D TV version will be available when 3D BluRay becomes commercially available.

“Thousands of Rockers & Film Fans Attend Premiere of “Night of the Living Dead, Now in 3D!” at Johnny Ramone’s Memorial Tribute”

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 16, 2009

San Diego-based 3D producer PassmoreLab, in conjunction with the Johnny Ramone Army, has confirmed that the iconic rocker’s memorial tribute was the largest ever, with approximately 3,000 fans showing up to pay homage to the guitarist and witness the World Premiere of “Night of the Living Dead, Now in 3D!” during the 5th Annual Johnny Ramone Tribute, which took place at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 3, 2009.

Ramones’ guitarist Johnny Ramone created the enduring template for punk rock guitar. With his blazing power chords and brutal licks energizing Ramones’ classics like “Blitzkrieg Bop”, “Rockaway Beach” and “Sheena is a Punk Rocker”, Johnny inspired generations of punk bands until his untimely death from prostate cancer in 2004. His annual tribute, now in its fifth year, takes place at the foot of his 8 ft. memorial bronze statue inside the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Attending Hollywood celebrities and rockstars included actress Rose McGowan, actress Rosanna Arquette, actress PJ Soles, actress Virginia Madsen, actors David Arquette and Vincent Gallo, Sex Pistol’s Steve Jones, musician Pete Yorn, X’s Billy Zoom, radio personality Joe Escalante of the Vandals, Stan Lee of The Dickies, the Ramones’ Tommy Ramone, CJ Ramone and many more.

“This year’s event was spectacular and turned out to be everything we’d hoped for,” said John Cafiero, Chief of Staff of the Johnny Ramone Army. “It was just a great night all around. The event was rich and diverse as a whole and so was the crowd. Commandos assembled from all over the world and it was the biggest turnout we’ve ever seen at the annual Tribute. I think Johnny would be proud.”

The event was a fundraiser with net proceeds benefiting the Johnny Ramone research fund at USC Westside Prostate Cancer Center lead by Dr. David Agus.

Fans enjoyed a full evening of Rock ‘N Roll and movie magic in both 2D and 3D with a vintage 1977 Ramone’s concert film “It’s Alive”; the rarely-seen “Rock ‘N Roll High School” original theatrical trailer, which was introduced by special guest PJ Soles, the original Riff Randall from the film; “Night of the Living Pinheads”, a unique clip from the “Ramones RAW” DVD where the band is seen in South America and their van is being mobbed by adoring fans fittingly intercut with shots from “Night of the Living Dead”; a rare memorabilia exhibit; an art show of original paintings by the legendary Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone; opening featurettes of animated music videos from the Johnny Ramone Army and the world premiere of Osaka Popstar’s “Wicked World” 3D video; NVIDIA’s new 3D Vision presentation of the horror game “Resident Evil 5″; and never-before-seen 3D photos of Johnny Ramone himself.

The evening concluded with the 3D World Premiere of George Romero’s original 1968 cult classic “Night of the Living Dead, Now in 3D!”, produced by PassmoreLab, and was superbly introduced by actress and JRA affiliate Rose McGowan, a close friend of Ramone for many years.

“We had a huge turnout! What can I say? It was for the love of Johnny Ramone, a great cause and fantastic entertainment,” reflects McGowan. “Johnny would’ve been thrilled that so many people love & respect The Ramones.”

“The movie looked great in 3D,” said Greg Passmore, president of PassmoreLab. “We took great care restoring and converting it, and I am very pleased with the outcome.”

“It was great to see this all come together,” said James Humann, producer at PassmoreLab. “We are fans ourselves, and were happy to be a part of such an amazing event!”

Ford Sponsors ‘Sojouner Truth’ Memorial Fund, First to Honor African American Woman in U.S. Capitol

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) April 29, 2009

Ford Motor Company Fund, announced yesterday that the company is a lead sponsor of the Sojourner Truth Memorial Fund, which is establishing the first memorial in the U.S. Capitol honoring an African American woman.

The memorial’s bust was unveiled Tuesday at a 10 a.m. ceremony at the U.S. Capitol with more than 600 guests. Supporters of the bill to install the memorial included Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.

“Ford is proud to be a major sponsor of the Sojourner Truth Memorial Fund and to be participating in the unveiling of its memorial,” said Ziad Ojakli, group vice president of Government and Community Relations, Ford Motor Company. “Despite her hardships, Sojourner Truth paved the way for equality for all women, which is why she is being honored in the U.S. Capitol alongside others who have been recognized for their work in the women’s suffrage movement.”

Organized by the National Congress of Black Women (NCBW), the Sojourner Truth Memorial Fund was created to acknowledge the life and legacy of Sojourner Truth. For more than 10 years, NCBW worked tirelessly for a Sojourner Truth bust to be included in the portrait statue in the U.S. Capitol alongside suffragists Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony.

Ford’s involvement in this project was inspired by the Freedom’s Sisters exhibition that is currently on tour in more than nine U.S. cities. The exhibition, funded by Ford Motor Company Fund, the community relations arm of Ford Motor Company, is honoring the legacy of more than 20 African American women including the late Dr. C. Delores Tucker, who was one of the leaders to set the Sojourner Truth campaign in motion and a president of NCBW.

The three-year Freedom’s Sisters tour began in the Cincinnati Museum in March 2008 and continues to Detroit, Mich. on April 25 after it leaves Memphis, Tenn.

“In recognition of a legacy rich in the civil right struggle, Ford will continue to recognize those who shaped much of the spirit and substance of civil rights in America,” said Pamela Alexander, director of Community Development and Fund Operations, Ford Motor Company Fund. “Ford Motor Company congratulates NCBW for keeping the legacy of Dr. C. Delores Tucker alive by carrying out an important mission to have Sojourner Truth’s statue to be placed in the Capitol. We applaud your tireless effort to have Sojourner Truth’s story to be recognize by all Americans.”

“NCBW is pleased to collaborate with Ford Motor Company to make this day happen in history,” said Dr. E. Faye Williams, national chairwoman, NCBW. “The movement to bring Truth’s likeness to the U.S. Capitol began more than 10 years ago, led by C. Delores Tucker, several black female politicians and NCBW. We are grateful to finally see Sojourner Truth get the recognition she truly deserves.”
