About Bari-Ellen Ross, Contributing Writer: In 1980, she began her ten year career at Chase Manhattan Bank and was the first African American Vice President in the Global Trust Division. Her outstanding experience and credentials led her to the doors of Texaco, who recruited her in 1990 to join the Finance Department as a Senior Financial Analyst.
In March of 1994, Ms. Roberts became the lead plaintiff in the largest discrimination suit in history. In November of 1996 after the release of the “black jelly bean tapes,” Texaco was brought to its knees in the face of ROBERTS VS TEXACO and agreed to pay $ 176 million to approximately 1,400 African American employees nationwide. Her book, “ROBERTS VS TEXACO, A TRUE STORY OF RACE AND CORPORATE AMERICA,” published by Avon Books in hardcover and paperback, has received high praise from such notables as Henry Louis Gates, Gloria Steinem and Julianne Malveaux, as a compelling testimony of the fight against discrimination and the courage, candor and grace of one woman who took on Corporate America and won.

She speaks Spanish fluently and has traveled extensively. She was a member of the faculty at Fairfield University in Connecticut, teaching “Corporate Social Responsibility and Diversity” in the Dolan School of Business.
